I didn’t intend to take a blogging break, but then Hurricane Irene happened. Hobgoblin, Muttboy, and I are totally fine, but we are without power and have no idea when we will get it back. It might possibly be as late as the end of the week or on into the weekend. But all is well: we have running water and we are within easy walking distance of town with lots of shops, restaurants, etc., all of which have power. We can go to the coffee shop  and the library to charge our phones and get internet access. It’s a little annoying not to have a refrigerator, but, then again, it’s not so bad either.

So I’ll be away for a while longer. Fortunately, I’ve had plenty of reading time, and so will have a lot to write about when I get back. In the meantime, be well!

  1. So glad to know you are okay! But it’s a nuisance about the power. Do hope you and your neighbours are reconnected very soon. Take great care of yourselves!

  2. Glad you weathered the storm! No power for possibly the whole week? Goodness. Good excuse to go out and eat every night though 🙂

  3. Good to know you’re okay, Dorothy, and here’s hoping your power is back on before too long!

  4. Eva

I hope your power comes back soon! And I’m glad to hear that you all weathered the storm. 🙂

  5. Thanks for the update–glad to hear you’re ok!

  6. How’s the weather? After Hurricane Ike in ’08, we were without power for 17 days and just had to move out – Houston not being especially liveable in August without a/c :-/

  7. Glad you’re ok. No power — what a hassle! Hope it isn’t too long before your power is restored. I heard on the news this morning that 1 in every 3 people in Conn. are without electricity. Unbelievable!

  8. I was wondering how you were faring! Sorry to hear your power is out–thankfully it wasn’t worse for you but still an annoyance (one night without power drives me nuts), but makes for extra reading time. I’ll keep m fingers crossed your power will come on sooner rather than later!

  9. Hope everything will be back to normal soon. But it sure is quite an experience to have to live without power. Can’t wait to hear from you again talking about your ordeal. So I can see too that you’re reading still… from your tweet. All the best and enjoy your reading!

  10. Litlove — thank you! We got our power back sooner than I expected, which was very, very nice.

Stefanie — we did plenty of that! We also went out and bought a gas grill, which was great, and we are still enjoying it 🙂

Emily — thank you, and by now I’ve forgotten what it’s like to be without power 🙂

Eva — thanks! It was remarkably easy, as it turns out!

Lilian — thank you so much!

Pagesofjulia — fortunately for us, the weather was perfect. 70s during the day and 50s/60s at night, so no need to heat or cool the house. I couldn’t have asked for better weather!

Anne — there are people still without power, unfortunately, and it will go on well into next week. But more and more are getting theirs back, and everyone seems to be very helpful and kind, so that’s good.

Danielle — it seems to have worked! It’s been lovely having our power back. It drove me nuts trying to keep my phone charged, but that’s not really such a big deal, so I can’t complain! We did have plenty of reading time.

Arti — thank you! It was a pleasure to be able to focus on reading without feeling like I should be doing something else. I wanted power back, but I did kind of enjoy being unconnected for a while.
