Virginia Woolf

I just got an email advertising an upcoming exhibition in New York City about Virginia Woolf, This Perpetual Fight: Love and Loss in Virginia Woolf’s Intimate Circle, and I’m really excited about it. It features “over 200 items, including books, images, letters and other manuscript materials, some of which have never been exhibited publicly. It’s open September 17 to November 22. I’m sure I could drag Hobgoblin to see this, but he’s not exactly a Virginia Woolf fan (one of his very, very few failings). Is there anyone out there in the NYC area who might like to meet up one day to look through it? It could be a fun book blogger outing, for sure. Let me know.

  1. I’m all the way across the country, so I doubt I’ll be able to meet up with you, but I wish I could! I got the same email, though, checked it out, and it sounds great, doesn’t it? So if I somehow make it out to NYC this fall, I’ll check in with you ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I got the same email. Was tempted to send them a map. Looks neat and all but um, I’m not even in the same country.

  3. Ha, I second Sassymonkey. Got the same email, etc. If I happen to somehow figure out how to get to NY I would love to see this, though! And what a great idea for a book blogger outing, too; I’m jealous of all you NY area bloggers.

One of the things I miss about no longer making frequent work trips to NYC is that I miss out on really cool things like this. I really wish I could afford to live in Manhattan — and since I’m wishing — not have to work either! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I got that same email. It sounds like a great exhibit, but unfortunately I live too far away. Please go and we can live vicariously through you! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Here in the Uk, we have just had two stunning Prom concerts from the New York Phil (I am still buzzing from last night’s, I don’t think anyone in this household slept for hours afterwards we were on such a high) and so had already decided I was going to emigrate and come and live in New York. Now I know I’m coming. I would love to go to this. Do you know if this is a one off or is it a travelling exhibition?

  9. I got that email too. Brandon’s comment made me laugh ๐Ÿ™‚ Wish I lived close enough to NYC to go. It really would be a great blogger meet up outing.

  10. Well, I would go with you, if you don’t mind the company of someone who knows nothing about Virginia Woolf. I could give myself a crash course!

  11. I received the email as well and was sad that I would not be able to attend. The wonders of the internet – even though N.Y. is too far for many of us, who would have dreamed of how accessible information would become? Many people who WILL be able to attend would not even have been aware of the event a few short years ago. Add the possibility of meeting up with blogging friends to view the exhibit just adds sugar on top of a great plum. Hope you will be able to meet with some fellow bloggers, Dorothy!

  12. Well, so much for me being special in getting that email, right? ๐Ÿ™‚ Sorry to all of you who can’t get to NYC in a day … if i could afford to bring you all here, I definitely would!

To Becky and Fendergal — let’s go then!

  13. Hmm. I’m seriously considering going to this little shindig. Getting there isn’t a problem–I work for a major airline–but I’ve never been to New York and I get lost VERY easily. And I like to have things to do when I travel. It’s just a matter of getting the time off work and (fingers crossed) clearing the standby list. (Yeah, my flight benefits, while nice, have a catch.)

Let me know what date(s) you’re considering and I’ll see what I can do.

Oh, if I still lived in New England I’d be with you in a heartbeat. Ann’s question is a good one – does this exhibit travel?
