   I’ve left a comment on the site, Dorothy, but just to expand it here. I’ve been working today on ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ and one of the issues I’ve been thinking about is the question of identity and who creates Katherine’s sense
   of herself and the view that society holds of her, so the early points you are making in the review were especially interesting. I’ll take what you’ve said about these short stories back with me into the study tomorrow and see what additional light it shines on the play. Thank you.

   I already told you this, but I’ll say again here how much I enjoyed your review. And the book sounds like one I will definitely have to read – identity issues, especially from people living in the Caribbean is a subject I’ve been interested in for a long time. It sounds like Yanique is an excellent new voice in a longstanding tradition.

   Wonderful review! It sounds like a challenging read, at least for me, because the style isn’t the kind I normally tackle but it seems like an immensely rewarding and provocative read.

   Annie — how interesting the way our reading has intersected! I think the question of identity is one of the most interesting that fiction can explore (well, and drama too — let’s say all of literature!).

   Michelle — then it sounds like the book is exactly right for you. I’d love to know what you make of it.

   Steph — it’s not challenging in the sense of being difficult, but it does feel different than a lot of the mainstream fiction I read. Yes, provocative!

   Stefanie — interesting point about style. It’s me, but more like what I’d write for school 🙂 I like writing more formal reviews, but blog style is a good bit easier!

   This sounds like it might be a good book for the course you’re teaching later. It sounds like an interesting collection of stories-nicely varied. My library has it so I might have to go check it out!
